Experts advancing the
influenza conversation

Dr. Deepali Kumar

Director, Ajmera Transplant Centre, UHN

Professor of Medicine, University of Toronto

Dr. Deepali Kumar is an attending transplant infectious diseases physician whose research focuses on viral infections, vaccines, and immunologic responses in immunocompromised patients. Her work advances understanding of infection prevention and vaccine strategies for transplant recipients and other vulnerable populations.

Dr. Mark Heise

Professor, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

Dr. Mark Heise studies how viral and host factors shape virus-induced disease. His lab integrates molecular virology, viral immunology, quantitative genetics, and antiviral drug discovery to advance therapeutics against emerging threats including influenza A and chikungunya viruses. He also co-founded the Rapidly Emerging Antiviral Drug Development Initiative (READDI), a nonprofit dedicated to developing broad-spectrum antiviral drugs for current and future pandemic threats.

Dr. Colin Russell

Professor at Amsterdam UMC

Chair of ESWI

Dr. Colin Russell studies respiratory virus evolution, influenza vaccine strategy, and mathematical modelling of infectious disease dynamics. He chairs ESWI and the EU Steering Group on Prevention of Respiratory Infections, and regularly advises WHO, governments, and international organizations on vaccination strategy and pandemic preparedness.
